Similar to modern sharks, Megalodon continually produced teeth and then lost them. Some of these teeth ended up in marine sediments. Under the right conditions burial was able to protect them long enough for fossilization to occur.
Then geology took over
The next chapter was incredibly slowly. Sediments were accumulating. Minerals interacted and buried material. Geological forces altered landscapes and areas that had previously submerged eventually were transformed into the land we recognize today.
